I've seen several social interviews of people on the streets of NYC. Most of the people interviewed are young women. When asked why they voted for Mamdani, they say some of the same things you wrote about: He's young. He was on TikTok. He's exciting to watch. He's going to lower rent. He hates Trump. etc.

What's scary is that none of the young people interviewed have knowledge of socialism, communism, taxation, the power limits of the NYC mayor, or more. The ignorance is horrific.

Exceptional narrative. Thank you. I am an X New York person. Born there. Brooklyn. 1942. Parents relocated to Westchester County Irvington on the Hudson after WWII in 1946. I returned in 1968 after college and the USMC and surviving the Vietnam debacle. Employment in NYC for three years followed by grad school. Departure in 1973. For good. It was odiferous even then. Have never looked back. NYS is incapable of rescuing NYC. Very dark days ahead.
